# Import Contacts From Spectora, ISN, HIP, HomeGauge or Horizon

> Import your clients and agents into Hive Inspect from a Spectora, ISN, HIP, HomeGauge or Horizon export, tag every contact in the file as Clients or Agents, and get help with any other CSV.

In the dashboard: **Contacts → Import CSV**.

Moving from other inspection software? Export your clients and agents from it, then import the files into Hive. Each contact keeps their name, email, phone, address and more, and you can tag everyone in a file as you import it.

> [!TIP]
>
> **Create your tags first.** Before you import, go to **Contacts → Manage Tags** and create a **Clients** tag and an **Agents** tag. Then import your clients file with the **Clients** tag and your agents file with the **Agents** tag, and everyone lands in the right group. See [Manage contact tags](/how-tos/contact-tags#recommended-a-clients-tag-and-an-agents-tag).

## Where you can import from

Pick your old software under **Select Company**. Hive reads that software's own export file, so you don't need to change any columns.

![Import Contacts with the Select Company list open: Spectora, ISN (Inspection Support Network), HIP (Home Inspector Pro), HomeGauge, Horizon (Carson Dunlop)](https://mintcdn.com/hiveinspect-43c85ed1/yiSiawEi2XjOFEH3/images/how-tos/contacts-import-software.png?fit=max\&auto=format\&n=yiSiawEi2XjOFEH3\&q=85\&s=3e0b85d8982c395db005de25d3020391)

| Select Company | Files it reads | What comes across |
| - | - | - |
| **Spectora** | The contacts export (clients or agents) | Name, email, phone, birthday, address, website, social links, photo, agency (as text), agent team as **Business Name**; second phone and Spectora tags go into **Notes** |
| **ISN (Inspection Support Network)** | The Agents export or the Clients export | Name, email, phone (mobile first, then work, then home), address, photo, agency, birthday, website; notes and inspection counts go into **Notes** |
| **HIP (Home Inspector Pro)** | The Client List or the Agent List | Name, phone, email, company, address (split into street, city, state and zip), notes |
| **HomeGauge** | The Agents or the Customers export | Name, company, address, email, phone, website; notes and the contact type go into **Notes** |
| **Horizon (Carson Dunlop)** | The CRM Agents or CRM Clients export | Name, email, CC email, phone, birthday, agency, address, website, social links, photo; private notes and Horizon tags go into **Notes** |

Files can be **CSV** or **Excel** (.xls, .xlsx).

## Import a file

### 1. Open Import CSV

Go to **Contacts** and click **Import CSV**.

### 2. Pick your old software

Under **Select Company**, choose where the file came from: **Spectora**, **ISN**, **HIP**, **HomeGauge** or **Horizon**.

### 3. Tag the contacts in your file

Under **Assign Tags (Optional)**, tick the tag for this file: **Clients** for your clients file, **Agents** for your agents file. Every contact in the file gets the tags you tick, including contacts who were already in Hive.

![Assign Tags (Optional) open with Clients ticked, and Agents, Top Producer, Lenders and Repeat Client unticked](https://mintcdn.com/hiveinspect-43c85ed1/yiSiawEi2XjOFEH3/images/how-tos/contacts-import-tags.png?fit=max\&auto=format\&n=yiSiawEi2XjOFEH3\&q=85\&s=ad5e98e46de2d57c0ee4eb5f207cc3df)

No tags in the list? Click **Create tags** in the empty list, or create them first under **Manage Tags**.

### 4. Add the file

Drag your file into the **Upload File** box, or click it to browse. The file name shows once it's added; click **×** to swap it.

### 5. Click Import Contacts

The import runs on our servers. You can close the window and keep working.

![Import Started Successfully: Large imports may take 15-20 minutes, with the file, source and tags listed, and a Done button](https://mintcdn.com/hiveinspect-43c85ed1/yiSiawEi2XjOFEH3/images/how-tos/contacts-import-started.png?fit=max\&auto=format\&n=yiSiawEi2XjOFEH3\&q=85\&s=bdeceb1ef0b2511b4411693fa77771e9)

Contacts appear in your list as they're imported. Small files finish in seconds; large files with photos can take 15 to 20 minutes.

### 6. Repeat for your other file

Import clients and agents as **separate files**, each with its own tag, so each group gets the right tag.

## What happens to each row

* **Email is required.** Hive matches contacts by email. Rows with no email are skipped.
* **Already in Hive?** If a contact with the same email already exists, Hive **updates** it instead of creating a duplicate. Only fields that have a value in the file are changed; nothing in Hive is blanked out. The tags you picked are still added.
* **Same email twice in one file?** The first row creates the contact and later rows update it.
* **Photos** from Spectora, ISN and Horizon are copied into Hive, so they keep working after you cancel your old account.
* **Agency names** come across as text. To link an agent to a brokerage in your directory, open the contact and pick the **Brokerage**. See [Edit a contact](/how-tos/edit-contact#professional-information).
* **Tags from your old software** are kept in the contact's **Notes**, not created as Hive tags. Use **Assign Tags** to tag the file, or ask our team to bring each contact's own tags across.
* **Nothing is sent.** Importing never emails or texts your contacts. A contact only gets automated messages once they're on an inspection.

## After you import

1. Go to **Contacts** and filter by your new tag to check the list. See [Contacts list](/how-tos/contacts-list).
2. If someone came in twice under two emails, use **Merge Contacts**. See [Merge duplicate contacts](/how-tos/contacts-list#merge-duplicate-contacts).
3. Add photos to your top agents. Their photo shows on the inspection pages your clients see. See [Edit a contact](/how-tos/edit-contact#profile-photo).

## Frequently asked questions

> **I imported but I don't see all my contacts yet.**
>
> Large files keep importing in the background for up to 15 to 20 minutes. Refresh the **Contacts** page after a few minutes. Rows with no email address are always skipped.

> **Will importing the same file twice create duplicates?**
>
> No. Contacts are matched by email, so a second import updates the existing contacts instead of adding new ones.

> **Can I import a contact that has no email?**
>
> Not through the import. Add them by hand with **Add New Contact** and click **Generate Dummy Email**, then replace it when you get the real email. See [Edit a contact](/how-tos/edit-contact#basic-information).

> **My software isn't listed, or my file has different columns.**
>
> Send the file to us through the chat bubble or at [support@hiveinspect.com](mailto:support@hiveinspect.com) and we'll import it for you.

> **Can I import past inspections too?**
>
> Yes, our team can bring over past inspections and reports. See [Switching from other software](/switching).
