In the dashboard: Business Tools → API Access → MCP

The Hive Inspect API is a work in progress. It is available to a small group of accounts today, and the release for everyone is coming very soon. To ask for early access, message us from the chat bubble in your dashboard.
MCP (Model Context Protocol) is the standard way to connect an AI assistant to another app. Once you connect Hive, you can ask your assistant questions in plain language and it looks up the answer in your account. The assistant can only read your data. It cannot create, change or delete anything in Hive.

What you can ask

  • “Which agents sent me the most inspections this year?”
  • “Show my inspections for next week and who is assigned.”
  • “Which agents haven’t booked with me in the last 90 days?”
  • “How many inspections did I do last month, and what was the revenue?”
  • “Find the inspection at 12 Oak Street and tell me if the agreement is signed.”

Connect your assistant

You connect Hive Inspect to your assistant, sign in to Hive, and click Allow. There is no key to copy.

Claude

Hive Inspect is in Claude’s connector directory, so there is nothing to type or paste. Works on claude.ai and in the Claude desktop app.
  1. Open Hive Inspect in Claude and connect it.
  2. Hive opens. Sign in if asked, check the company name, and click Allow.
You can also find it inside Claude: open Settings, then Connectors, browse the directory, and search for Hive Inspect.

ChatGPT

Do this on the website (chatgpt.com), not in the phone app.
  1. Open Settings, then Plugins (under Integrations), and click Browse directory.
  2. Click Add (top right), then Create custom MCP server.
  3. Enter the name Hive Inspect and paste https://api.hiveinspect.com/mcp as the MCP server URL.
  4. Leave Authentication on OAuth.
  5. Tick I understand and want to continue, then click Create as a plugin.
  6. Hive opens. Sign in if asked, check the company name, and click Allow.
Custom MCP servers may need a paid ChatGPT plan. If you don’t see Create custom MCP server, your plan or workspace doesn’t allow it.
Menu names in these apps change from time to time. If you can’t find the option, search your assistant’s help for “custom connector” or “MCP”.

Other tools

A tool that supports MCP over HTTP with OAuth sign-in can connect to https://api.hiveinspect.com/mcp. For a tool that can’t sign in, send an API key as Authorization: Bearer YOUR_API_KEY.

What the assistant can read

Each tool returns the same data as the matching API endpoint.

Disconnect an assistant

Go to Business Tools → API Access and open the MCP tab. Under Connected assistants, click Disconnect. The assistant stops reading your data right away.

Things to know

  • Who can set it up. Only the account owner and admins can connect an assistant.
  • Only click Allow if you started it. Hive asks for your approval only when you add the connector yourself.
  • Your data only. A connection can only reach the company you approved it for.
  • If the person leaves. A connection stops working if the person who connected it leaves your team or is no longer an owner or admin.
  • Answers depend on the assistant. Hive supplies the data. The assistant decides how to read and summarize it, so check important numbers against Hive.
  • Rate limit. Requests through MCP count toward the same limit as the API. See Rate limits and errors.
  • Dates. A date you mention without a time zone is read in your company’s time zone.
