In the dashboard: open the inspection, then Inspectors (on a confirmed inspection, click the Inspector button first).

If your company has more than one inspector, you can move an inspection to someone else, or put two or more inspectors on one job. You do it on the inspection’s order page in the web dashboard, at any status, including after it’s confirmed. Hive then moves the Google Calendar event, the inspector’s automated messages and the job in the mobile app to the new inspector. The client isn’t told.

Change the inspector

1

Open the inspection

On the Inspections page, click the inspection’s row. Its Inspection Order Page opens.
2

Open the inspector field

  • Confirmed inspection: below Quick Actions, click the Inspector button (it reads Inspectors when there are two or more). It shows who’s assigned, next to the Date & time button. Two buttons on a confirmed inspection: Inspectors, Jamie Fox and Alex Rivera, and Date and time, Oct 7, 2026, 09:45 AM PDT, 1.3h
  • Any other status: the Inspectors field is already open at the top of the page.
3

Add the new inspector

Click + Add and pick the person. Each person shows with their email. The Inspectors field with Jamie Fox and Alex Rivera, each with a remove button, and the Add menu open, offering Sam Patel, sam@example.com
4

Remove the old inspector

Click the × on the name of the person who’s no longer doing the job. To put two inspectors on the job, skip this step.
5

Wait for All changes saved

There’s no Save button. Hive saves about two seconds after your last change and shows Saving your changes…, then All changes saved (“It’s now safe to leave this page”). Don’t leave the page before that.
Add the new inspector before you remove the old one, so the inspection always has someone on it. If you remove everyone, the inspection has no inspector: it’s taken off their calendars, their inspector messages stop, and the inspector button reads Assign inspector.
Changes save the same way while you’re booking a new inspection. When you click New Inspection, Hive fills in Inspectors for you: you, if your role is Inspector or Sub-Inspector, or otherwise the Default Inspector from Profile Settings. The Inspectors field on a new inspection with Alex Rivera, and the Add menu open, offering Jamie Fox, jamie@example.com, and Sam Patel, sam@example.com

What changes when you change the inspector

The first inspector

When there’s more than one inspector, the first one listed is the main inspector. Hive uses them for:
  • the open times shown under Date & time
  • Miles from Inspector’s Address price modifiers
  • the inspector a client sees first when they book from a quote
There’s no button to change the order. To make someone else first, remove the others and add them back.

In the mobile app

You can’t change the inspector in the mobile app. On the inspection’s summary screen, tap Edit Inspection Order (“Inspector’s Dashboard”). It opens the inspection’s order page in your browser, where you change it as above.

Online bookings and quotes

When a client books online or picks a time from a quote, they choose the inspector:
  • Any Available Inspector gives the job to the closest inspector who is free at that time.
  • They can also pick a specific inspector.
The inspector they choose takes the place of the first inspector on the inspection. Anyone else you added stays, so a second inspector on a quote isn’t lost. If they choose someone who’s already on the inspection, nothing changes. Online bookings from your scheduling widget start with a stand-in inspector, which is simply replaced. The booking arrives as Waiting. Change the inspector before or after you confirm it, the same way as above. See Set inspector service areas and Send a quote.

The Team column on the Inspections page

On the Inspections page, clicking the inspector initials in the Team column (or Assign inspector on a phone) opens Manage Profile Assignments. It’s a quick way to change the inspectors without opening the inspection:
  • Add: tick people under Add New Assignments and click the Assign button (for example Assign 2 Profiles).
  • Remove: click the remove button next to a name under Currently Assigned. It’s removed straight away.
Both make the same updates as the order page: calendars, inspector messages, the mobile app and payouts.

Who can change the inspector

  • Anyone with the Schedule Management permission can change the inspector on any inspection.
  • Anyone else can change it only on inspections they’re assigned to. If they remove themselves, they can no longer open the inspection.
Only team members with the Inspector or Sub-Inspector role are listed under + Add. Admins and support staff aren’t, and deactivated team members can’t be added. See Team permissions.

Common questions

Does the client get told about the new inspector? No. If you want to tell them, email them yourself. Messages Hive sends them afterwards use the new inspector’s name wherever your templates use inspector placeholders. The old inspector still has the event in Google Calendar. Hive removes it when the inspection is on calendars (Confirmed with Block calendar on) and the old inspector has Google Calendar connected. Delete any leftover event in Google Calendar by hand. If the new inspector’s event is missing, open Date & time and click Regenerate calendar event. Can I put two inspectors on one inspection? Yes. Click + Add again. Both get the calendar event, the inspector messages and the job in their app. Can two inspectors work on the same report? Yes. Everyone assigned can open the inspection in the mobile app and work on its reports. Does changing the inspector check that they’re free? No. Check their calendar, or open Date & time to see the first inspector’s open times, before you confirm. Why can’t I find someone under + Add? They’re already on the inspection, they’re deactivated, or their role is Admin or Support Staff. Change their role on the Teams page.
