Smart scheduling decides which inspector your online booking widget offers to a client, based on where each inspector is based and how far they are willing to travel. When a client books through your scheduler, Hive Inspect matches the request to the closest available inspector, the same way a ride-sharing app dispatches the nearest driver, instead of offering every inspector for every address.

Optimizing inspector assignments with area limitations

How smart scheduling works

For every inspection booked online, Hive Inspect checks each inspector on your team for:
  • Availability — the working hours and start times set in Team Availability, plus anything already on their Google Calendar.
  • Service area — the inspector’s home or office address and their maximum travel distance.
  • Inspection length — the duration of the selected service, so the calendar is blocked for the full appointment automatically.
Only time slots that satisfy all three are shown to the client. If more than one inspector qualifies, the closest one is assigned.

Set an inspector’s service area

1

Open availability settings

In the web dashboard go to Settings → Team Settings and select the inspector you want to configure.
2

Enter a base address

Fill in Street Address, City, State / Province, ZIP Code, and Country. This is the point Hive Inspect measures travel distance from, so use the location the inspector normally starts the day from.
3

Set the maximum travel distance

Enter a value in Maximum Travel Distance (miles). Addresses outside this radius will not be offered to that inspector through the online scheduler.
4

Save and repeat for each team member

Save the settings, then repeat for every inspector who should receive online bookings. If you leave Maximum Travel Distance empty, that inspector is treated as unlimited and can be offered for any address.
Overlapping service areas are fine. When two inspectors both cover an address, Hive Inspect offers the combined availability and assigns the closer inspector for the slot the client picks.

Frequently asked questions

No. Area limits only apply to bookings that come in through the online scheduling widget. When you create an inspection from the dashboard or mobile app you can assign any inspector.
The client sees a message that the property is beyond your maximum service distance and is asked to contact you directly. Increase the travel distance for a nearby inspector, or book it manually from the dashboard.
Yes. Setting an address and maximum distance for a solo inspector stops clients from booking addresses that are too far away to serve profitably.
